Home Studio Build phase 1/2/3
After long consideration and deciding to do some much needed Renovations to my home I had to come up with a plan of how to carry on the studio work which has became such a success over the last 2 years. Taking the decision “Go Big Or Go Home lol” avenue I had decided to remove the old garden shed and replace it with a large studio that would incorporate a drum room just so I could have new music tracked with live instruments on site and therefore have greater control over the quality of capture at source .
Little did i think of the process involved or the development criteria required for the undertaking but I started and omg what a learning curve this became , after discussing this with my builder (Dave Smith .. BDS should anyone like to know and definitely recommended ) who kindly took on the job and benefitting that he had music and sound engineering experience we made a plan … well i did a drawing of scrap paper lol .. this was around November time 2021 and we where looking to start around late January ( if possible) I said i would prepare the ground area and what a task this was … not scared of hard work i had no idea removing 4ton of soil would be so hard let alone did a 2ft trench the length of the garden for the electric cable would be but i soon learned why i drive a wagon ( no disrespect intended to my fellow drivers ) but what the hell was i thinking … but eventually it was done and the build was underway .. however i will say at this point the weather was cold and i had a builder who even in -3 was wearing shorts (picture will be supplied as evidence lol) and me well coats, hat and gloves .
As the build progressed and plans tweaked to get the best result budgets allowed it all started to take shape … Floors, walls, and roof pulled together and the meticulous details Dave went to for perfection was outstanding even when words like “ within tolerance “ where used he still worked to get it square to the Millimetre … One thing learned while the past weeks have moved on is listen and learn and appreciate the advice given and the end result will be worth it ..
Well So far The building is built and waterproof .. widow doors all in there right place .. the roofline system installed and doing what it said on the tin .. and first fix electrics are in .. and the pleasure of installing the RockWool sound insulation is truly amazing but advice do not try this without a mask and goggles and gloves and ventilation .. ( oh the little things in life bring such smiles of joy lol ) there is still lots to do .. installing thermal insulation and then soundbloc plasterboard are just a few things to pull the rooms together then a sound check to test its level of annoyance to the neighbours but i will keep you all up with this journey
